Bucket Terminology

Struck Capacity
The struck capacity of a bucket is rated on the inside physical dimensions of the bucket only. There are no provisions taken for optional side cutters, spill guards, teeth, and other accessories.

Heaped Capacity
The Heaped Capacity is the amount of material inside the bucket plus the amount piled on top.The amount of material piled on top of the bucket (heap) is determined by the angle of repose of the material being handled. The amount of material in the heap depends upon the type of material and its fill factor. For a list of material weight and fill factors, please click here. (add link to material weight and fill factors.)

Bucket Width
The bucket width is the width of the bucket measured over the sides of the bucket at the lower lip without teeth or side cutters attached. As a rule of thumb, wider buckets are used in loose material and narrower buckets in harder material. Cutting Width
The cutting width is the width of the bucket measured over the teeth and side cutters.

Tip Radius
The tip radius is the length between the center of the stick pin and the edge of the bucket teeth. As a general rule, the shorter the tip radius, the greater the breakout force.
